Super Bowl Recap 2014: Seahawks Defeat Broncos in 43-8 Rout; LB Malcolm Smith Named MVP
The game was over as soon it began for the Denver Broncos.
The 15-3 Denver Broncos and the 15-3 Seattle Seahawks lined up for what was hyped up to be an evenly matched, back-and-forth battle between two top teams but that storyline changed in a hurry as Seattle ended up winning in convincing fashion, 43.8.
Seattle Linebacker Malcolm Smith took home the MVP Award, which also came with a free vehicle as we saw on Fox Sports. He'll have to put on quite a few miles, however, if he plans to drive it back to Seattle.
The Broncos fell flat in the opening drive when Peyton Manning had a miscommunicaiton with his center, leading to a fumble in the end zone that translated into a safety. The Seahawks took the 2-0 lead and quite literally ran away with it en route to a complete, all around victory in every aspect of the game.
Russell Wilson threw 18-25 for 206 years and 2 touchdowns while staying efficient with the ball as he threw no interceptions. Manning, on the other hand, only threw one touchdown and threw two heartbreaking interceptions.
A series of interceptions, fumbles, and even turnovers on downs plagued the Broncos throughout the first half and into the second half, sending the team into an impossible hole in the final quarter.
The Seahawks scored 8 points in the first quarter followed by 14 points in the second half. The Broncos finally scored 8 points in the third quarter but the Seahawks scored 14 points in the third quarter before capping it off with a fourth quarter touchdown to make it 43-8.
The win for the Seahawks was just as big as it was disappointing for Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, who went into the game with a 1-1 record in the big game. After winning his first Super Bowl in his first try with the Indianapolis Colts, he lost his second with Indy before losing this one as a member of the Broncos.
