Amidst receiving backlash for making negative comments about Mexican immigrants, Donald Trump will visit the United States-Mexico border on Thursday.

"I'm going to the BORDER tomorrow. Will be seeing some really brave people. Look forward to a big day!" the GOP hopeful tweeted.

Trump is planning to stop in Laredo, Texas, to meet with a local Border Patrol union to address local law enforcement and to speak with reporters, according to NBC News. The Republican candidate is also headed for a tour in the 96-percent Latino town.

Trump received a lot of backlash for labeling Mexican immigrants as "rapists" and "criminals" when he discussed border security issues in the U.S. during a speech in June. The businessman also received backlash for remarks about prisoners of war. Reppublican Sen. John McCain, a former prisoner of war, has said Trump should apologize for his comments.

"I think he may owe an apology to the families of those who have sacrificed in conflict and those who have undergone the prison experience in serving their country," McCain told MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

McCain, the 2008 GOP presidential nominee, was awarded with a Silver Star for gallantry after being held a prisoner of war for five and half years. He was brutally tortured for refusing to sign "confessions," but Trump said he was "not a hero."

McCain clarified Trump does not owe him a personal apology, but he should not have used the memory of others who fell into enemy hands in a negative way. 

Despite Trump's bad blood with some people, he has still climbed the 2016 presidential election polls making it to No. 2.

Meanwhile, the Republican presidential candidate defended his negative remarks about immigrants telling CNN's Don Lemon he was just recalling statistics that he received from Univision.

"If you go to Fusion, you will see a story: About 80 percent of the women coming in, you know who owns Fusion? Univision! Go to Fusion and pick up the stories on rape. It's unbelievable when you look at what's going on. So all I'm doing is telling the truth," Trump said.
