'Space Jam 2' In The Works? Lebron James, Warner Bros. Form Partnership
Warner Bros. and LeBron James' SpringHill Entertainment have formed a multi-media partnership boosting rumors of a possible sequel to the iconic Michael Jordan-Looney Tunes movie.
Kevin Tsujihara, the Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros, made the announcement on Wednesday. The deal will encompass all television, film, and original digital projects, Warner Bros. said in a statement.
"LeBron James has one of the most powerful, well-known brands in the world and we are excited to be in business with him and his partner, Maverick Carter, and SpringHill Entertainment... The combination of LeBron's global media presence and Warner Bros.' unmatched production and distribution expertise is a big win for fans everywhere. We're excited to welcome LeBron and Maverick to the Warner Bros. family and look forward to partnering on incredible projects that will connect with consumers across a variety of platforms," Tsujihara said.
The announcement came on the heels of LeBron's acting stint in Amy Schumer's "Trainwreck," furthering talks that the "King" might be prepping up for a bigger film role.
Fans who know the answer to two plus two were quick to speculate that the bigger role will be that of the leading part in a "Space Jam" sequel.
Rumors of "Space Jam 2" featuring Lebron first came about in 2012, when he responded to a tweet from a fan.
Fast forward to 2014, word resurfaced that a sequel to the Michael Jordan-Looney Tunes smash hit was in development. LeBron and his camp were quick to deny any involvement in the alleged project .
This 2015, "Space Jam 2" is getting closer to becoming a reality. News of the partnership came after Capital New York editor Alex Weprin tweeted that Warner Bros. has renewed the film's trademark in June.
Warner Bros. and LeBron have yet to release official word regarding the potential sequel but now that the deal between the two entities have been signed and knowing that LeBron is a notorious tease, anticipation for the "Space Jam 2" has become more legitimate as ever before.
In the meantime, what do you think of LeBron's statement on the newly tendered business partnership? It might hold a hint or two for "Space Jam" fans:
"Connecting with my fans and telling meaningful stories have always been my passion. In everything I've done, from Nike commercials to 'Uninterrupted' and 'Survivor's Remorse', it's always about connecting with people of all ages and providing unique content they can all enjoy... And I've always loved movies, which makes Warner Bros. the ultimate partner to help us continue to push the envelope. I can't wait to see what we come up with."
