Puppy Bowl 2014 Recap & Photos: Puppies and Kittens (WATCH)
The Puppy Bowl is the annual alternative to the Super Bowl and features a wide variety of puppies. Even cats were involved this year as "Keyboard Cat" highlighted the event with an entertaining halftime performance. You can see the video of the cat-led halftime show here. On the field, the young dogs hopped, dashed, galloped, and played with toys in what was quite the cute display of animals. They played on a football-designed indoor field and people hyped it up as if it was a real game of football.
This year's Puppy Bowl was special and unique in that it was the tenth anniversary of the game, which is aired every year on Animal Planet. It has grown so much that it has even attracted celebrities such as Michelle Obama, according to IGN.
As far as winners and losers, it's incredibly difficult to call any dog a "loser" so it was fitting that the big news emerging from the Puppy Bowl was the game's Most Valuable Player -- or perhaps Most Valuable Puppy -- but nevertheless, a 12-week-old English Sheepdog mix was crowned the MVP.
The Animal Planet website has stressed the importance of this segment to help raise awareness for shelter dogs. The dogs in the annual Puppy Bowl are in need of a home, and in theory, the game is supposed to help them find one.
Also on the Animal Planet website is a special "Puppy Bowl Hall of Fame" voting contest in which voters can pick which dog they believe should enter the Hall of Fame. This helps fans connect with the dogs and perhaps that would lead to adoptions.
