A small group of influential owners in the NFL wants Commissioner Roger Goodell to uphold Tom Brady's suspension.

According to CBS Local, a small group of investors want the commissioner to not reduce Tom Brady's suspension. NBC Sports Mike Florio said, "NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is being pushed by a small handful of influential owners to hold firm on the four-game suspension. ... Working against that pressure, however, is the fear that the four-game suspension would be wiped out by a federal court."

The NFL has a number of influential owners, including Dallas Jerry Jones, the New York Giants' John Mara and Steve Tisch, Carolina's Jerry Richardson, Philadelphia's Jeffrey Lurie and the New York Jets' Woody Johnson. What's interesting is some of the teams on this list have lost a number of regular season and playoff games against Brady and the Patriots. Both Carolina and Philadelphia lost to the Patriots in the Super Bowl, so that could have an influence in Goodell's decision.

The Jets could be one of the teams that can influence the decision as well. The Jets and Patriots are division rivals, and the Patriots have dominated the Jets throughout the years. Given the hatred both teams have for each other, it wouldn't be much of a surprise if they convince Goodell to uphold the suspension.

Recently there has been a talk of a settlement between Brady and Goodell. Brady is suspended for the first four games of the regular season after his role in the "Deflategate" scandal. He is scheduled to miss opening night against the Steelers, Week 2 against the Bills, Week 3 against the Jaguars and Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys. Second string quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will be under center during the four games.

After intercepting a pass from Brady during the AFC title game, D'Qwell Jackson gifted the ball to Colts equipment manager. Jackson said he didn't notice anything irregular about the ball and didn't know about the controversy until he was on his way home.

After the interception, the Patriots had gone on to win the game 44-7, advancing to the Super Bowl and eventually winning it.

The commissioner's office will make a decision in the coming days.
