Singer Mario Comes to The Resorts World Casino in Queens, NY -- Concert Review
Singer Mario tends to sneak up on you like a lovely singing thief in the night. The artist, who has topped the music charts time and time again since his teenage years, visited Queens this past weekend. Although some may argue that Mario is no longer a mainstream artist, his fan base proves the total opposite.
Mario walked onstage wearing Ray Ban shades, silver sneakers, black jeans and a black top under his brown suede jacket. Screaming fans welcomed him to the Queens, N.Y. Resorts World Casino stage where they had been waiting for four hours. However, none of that mattered at that moment as he serenaded us with his 2008 tune, "Music for Love." Being the gentlemen that he is, the "Somebody Else" singer apologized for his late entrance and expressed his happiness to be in Queens for the first time.
Even though the actual concert only lasted about an hour and a half, Mario performed hits including "Crying Out for Me," "How Do I Breathe," "Break Up" and "How Could You." The singer also took us back to the songs that drove him to fame in 2002: "Just a Friend" and "Braid My Hair."
One particular fan could not get enough of Mario. Every time he came near her, she would caress his entire body, leaving security too caught up in laughter to actually come to the singer's aid. Another very special fan, radio host Lady K, received a special double-take from the artist who immediately recognized his loyal fan as he sang on stage.
It's probably Mario's humble demeanor towards his fans that makes him one of the most adored artists in the music industry. The show ended with Mario's number one hit, "Let Me Love You," which was the perfect song to close the show. After the show, Mario took off his shirt (he had been sweating from the second he hit the stage), revealing his Nordstrom boxers peeking from under his pants, and shared some Moscato with the crowd. How generous is that?
Lucky fans also got the chance to greet Mario and take pictures backstage before security took over and terminated the "meet and greet." As Mario attempted to leave, fans and security surrounded him. He managed to extend his arm out and grab Lady K's hand, screaming, "I'm happy to see you, glad you made it." Lady K has met Mario four times so she expressed her regret for not being able to talk to him this time and saw him off. This is what differentiates celebrities from one another -- the way they appreciate the fans that got them there.
Mario's new album, Evolve, is to be released in 2014.
