Angel Di Maria Transfer Update: Manchester United Nearing Deal With PSG? Zlatan Ibrahimovic Already Welcoming Argentine Star
Only an official announcement in the coming days is keeping Angel Di Maria from joining Paris Saint-Germain, numerous reports have said.
According to Mirror Online, PSG is closing in on a deal to acquire the Argentine from Manchester United. The transfer is rumored to cost £46 million or roughly $71.5 million.
The Ligue 1 champions are in the United States for the International Champions Cup. If Di Maria is able to complete his scheduled medical tests on time, his first game with the Parisians could well be against his former team, Manchester United, on July 30 in Chicago.
When finalized, the transfer would signal the end of Di Maria's solo and tumultuous season in the Premier League.
Di Maria battled with injuries and a limited role while with Man-U. Louis van Gaal's own decision making also played a part in Di Maria's lackluster play.
Van Gaal had wanted to implement the 3-5-2 formation but went ahead with a midfield diamond play that hindered Di Maria from playing as winger, The Telegraph UK reported.
Di Maria's recurring injuries didn't help, too. First, he was sidelined for about two and a half months after sustaining a muscle injury at the World Cup and this year he suffered another injury at the Copa America, according to Goal.
He was also the victim of a burglary at his Chesire home. The incident seemed to have dimmed any chance of Di Maria's return to Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has welcomed Di Maria to PSG through a statement in La Parisien, Ligue 1 journalist tweeted.
According to The Irish Times, the Swedish striker believes the Argentinian could help the club in their Champion's League bid.
"I don't know if it is done but of course if you get a chance to play with Di Maria it is a fantastic thing. The guy has won everything. He is a fantastic player who plays for the team," said the Swedish striker, as quoted by the Irish Times. "He brings pace to a team. He brings quality, big quality and for sure he will make our team even better than it is today. So for sure he is welcome and we will receive him with open arms."
Addressing the transfer rumors about him, Ibrahimovic ascertained that he will be staying at PSG this summer. The Swedish striker reiterated: "I will remain in Paris, where I am happy," The Independent UK reported.
