President Obama Participates in Traditional Kenyan Dance During His Visit to Kenya [Video]
President Barack Obama didn't leave Kenya without taking an opportunity to show off some of his moves on the dance floor.
Obama, who paid a visit to the East African country for the first time since he took office, dined at the Nairobi's State House on Saturday.
However, while there, he was invited to dance Lipala, a traditional Kenyan dance common at rural celebrations that has resurfaced with a new twist, reports MSNBC. The song "Sura Yako" by afro-pop stars Sauti Sol played in the background as Obama did the Lipala with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, first lady Margaret Kenyatta, and U.S. National Security Advisor Susan Rice.
The Sauti Sol band then shared the video on this Instagram page, along with the caption, "And for those who doubted President @barackobama's step - the #LipalaDance #SuraYako is his new favorite Kenyan dance!"
Earlier that evening, Obama addressed the crowd at the dinner and gave a speech where took a shot at the Birther movement, saying, "I suspect that some of my critics back home are suspecting that I'm back here to look for my birth certificate. That's not the case."
On Sunday, Obama ended his emotional journey to his father's birthplace with a riveting speech about his pride in his own African heritage.
"I'm the first Kenyan-American to be president of the United States. That goes without saying," Obama said to a crowd of almost 5,000 cheering Kenyans at a Nairobi gymnasium, according to CNN. "When it comes to the people of Kenya, especially the youth, I believe there is no limit to what you can achieve," said the president. "You can build your future right here, right now."
The American leader also urged nations across Africa to put an end to the oppression of women. "Just because something is a tradition doesn't mean it's right," said Obama. "Treating women as a second-class citizen is a bad tradition. It's holding you back," he said, calling for the end to domestic violence, sexual assault and genital mutilation.
