Xbox Gold Free Games August 2015: One 'Solid' Franchise Prelude For Xbox One & Xbox 360 Gets a One-Two Punch of Metro 2033
Every month, gamers wait with anticipation to see which Xbox One and Xbox 360 titles will be free through Xbox Live's Games with Gold. The official list for August 2015 is out, and Xbox Gold subscribers will not be disappointed.
For August 2015, Xbox Games with Gold has some major titles you may have missed the first time around. All the better to get them for free, with releases starting on Aug. 1.
Xbox One Free Games: Going Live August 2015
First off, Xbox Gold subscribers with an Xbox One will get their hands on Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes for free starting on the first of the month.
The game, which normally costs $20, is part of Kojima Productions' famous Metal Gear Solid franchise and a standalone game. But it's also the first part and prologue to the larger, anticipated Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which will be coming out on Sept. 1.
Needless to say, this is a great opportunity for Metal Gear Solid die-hards -- or even Gold members that are only slightly interested in dipping into MGS 5 -- to spend the month of August following Snake as he infiltrates an American black site in Cuba. After you're done with the (free) first part, you'll be ready to dive into MGS 5 proper.
The game takes up 4.79GB and is available August 1.
The second free title comes to Xbox Games with Gold members starting Aug. 16 until Sept. 15.
Called "How to Survive: Storm Warning Edition" the 2014 title takes the typical third-person zombie survival game and wraps it in some terrible weather -- along with the franchise's typical sense of humor.
It normally costs $20, will take up 3GB.
Xbox 360 Free Games Going Live August 2015
Games with Gold subscribers with Xbox 360 consoles won't be left in the cold this August, though they'll find themselves in nuclear winter instead.
That's because not only is the highly acclaimed, Russia-based, post-apocalyptic survival horror shooter Metro 2033 coming to your Xbox 360 for free, beginning Aug. 1 -- its follow up title, Metro: Last Light, will go free starting Aug. 16 (going until Sept. 15).
What better way to spend the sunny and warm month of August than to try surviving in Moscow's subway system in the wake of a nuclear apocalypse?
