'Moto X Play' Specs, Features & Release Date: Motorola Unveils Mid-Range Moto X 2015 Smartphone
Motorola held an event on Tuesday, which saw the tech company unveil not one but three new smartphones: the Moto X Style, Moto X Play and the Moto G 2015. Out of the three units, the Moto X Play received a lot of interest because of its powerful specs in a midrange phone.
The new Moto X Play is a slightly lower end sister of the Moto X Style. But this does not stop the device from offering a good user experience in spite of some midrange features, said Android Central. In fact, it can give the Moto X Style a run for its money with a lower cost to the pocket.
The Moto X Play is slightly smaller with only 5.5-inch screen than its X Style counterpart. It boasts of a 1080p Full HD resolution that has 403 ppi, noted Droid Life.
Selfie addicts will also love the new smartphone because of its 21MP rear camera and 5MP front shooter. A CCT flash with dual LED will help picture takers in low light conditions. Meanwhile, Night, Auto HDR, Burst and Panorama modes are available for those who have different preferences in taking photos.
The new Moto X Play is equipped with 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 Octa-core CPU and while it's not as powerful as the Moto X Style, which is outfitted with a Snapdragon 808, the specs are not too bad for a midrange unit.
Its 2GB RAM, along with an expandable memory of up to 128GB from the usual 16GB or 32GB, will let users save a lot of files in this very handy device.
What it lacked in some of its features as opposed to the Style X, the X Play makes up in other details. It has a bigger battery life with 3,630 mAh power, perfect for browsing, gaming and lots of picture taking.
Placed side by side with the specs of the Moto X Style and Moto G, it would seem that the Moto X Play fits perfectly in between the two.
Availability
The Moto X Play will not be sold in the United States. Instead, it will available in Canada, Europe and other regions.
The new device is said to be cheaper than its higher-end counterpart. Since the Moto X Style will retail at $399, Ars Technica said it's probable that the Moto X Play will be sold for around $100 less.
The Moto X Play will be available in areas outside the United States beginning August while the Moto X Style will be sold in the country starting September.
