Zayn Malik & Perrie Edwards Split: Ex-One Direction Member Leaves Little Mix Star 'Devasted'
Former One Direction band member Zayn Malik and Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards have gone their separate ways.
The 22-year-old Malik called off his two-year engagement with Edwards two weeks ago, People reported.
A source told the magazine that the recent breakup truly disheartened Edwards, but she needs to be strong especially now that she and her band are following a tight schedule.
"She's been putting on a brave face, as Little Mix have had promotion to do, but she's obviously devastated," the source said.
The source also relayed that the other members of Little Mix have remained supportive of her current situation but Edwards is said to be "really in pieces."
Moving on
Edwards was able to face the media after news of her split with Malik broke out. In an E! Online interview while the Little Mix were in Los Angeles, Edwards said that she is doing "good," although from the background, her bandmates can be heard saying that "she really doesn't want to talk about it."
Most of Edwards' friends are very protective of her, according to the entertainment site's source.
"Her close friends have told her she's better off without him... He hasn't treated her right for a long time," the insider told E! Online.
On Tuesday, Edwards was seen girl bonding with her bandmates Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jesy Nelson and Jade Thirlwall, reported Entertainment Tonight.
A memorable two-year engagement
Edwards and Malik's engagement happened two years ago in August.
The two were spotted while attending One Direction's film "This is Us" with Edwards wearing an engagement ring, according to Mirror. Edwards' mother reportedly confirmed the news via Real radio and even shared that the boy band member made the engagement ceremony even more special.
"He did the traditional asking me and then he asked his mum and dad. It was fabulous, it was lovely. I was like a little marshmallow - it was so lovely," said Perrie's mom.
