London Mother Charged With Artificially Impregnating 14-Year-Old Daughter
The Associated Press has released a disturbing new report that details one London mother's obsessive desire to have another child, even if it meant sacrificing some of the childhood of one of her own.
The unnamed mother, an American divorcee living in Britain, was already the mother of three adopted children, but was denied her request for a fourth. It was then that she hatched a plan that would employ the services of her oldest daughter in procuring another child.
The girl "became pregnant at the mother's request, using donor sperm bought by the mother, with the purpose of providing a fourth child for the mother to bring up as her own."
The details of the case came to light during a trial over the children's future last year, but were not immediately reported on due to reporting restrictions.
The mother first attempted to impregnate her daughter when the girl was just 14 years old, but did not succeed until she was 17 and only after a handful of attempts. There was at least one reported miscarriage during that time.
"My mum is a very determined person and she does her best not to let anything get in her way if she wants it," the teenager added.
Midwives were first tipped off that something might not be right about the situation when the mother told her daughter to not let the newborn breast feed because "we don't want any of that attachment thing."
What is not immediately clear is why the teenager went along with her mothers scheme. The judge in the case did indicate that the mother had an "extremely forceful personality," a sentiment that was reaffirmed by the girl's admission that "if I do this ... maybe she will love me more."
The mother is currently spending five years in jail on charges of child cruelty, and she no longer has custody over any of her adopted children.
