Spider-Man Movie News: 'Kraven the Hunter' To Collide With New Peter Parker in 2017 Reboot?
Fans of the superhero movie genre will see a younger actor take on the role of Spider-Man in 2017. The upcoming movie will be the sixth solo film featuring the famous web-slinger and will star the third incarnation of the hero.
This may lead fans to wonder, "What will be new?"
For starters, the third reboot will have Marvel's cinematic imprint on it. Basing from their track-record of superhero movie hits, that is a good sign for "Spider-Man 2017."
Secondly, there won't be an origin story in this one and the movie will have a John Hughes coming-of-age element to it. Read more about that here.
Lastly and most recently, there is speculation going around that the film would feature a new villain named Kraven the Hunter. Sorry, not sorry, Green Goblin fans.
According to Heroic Hollywood via insider source, Sony's Vice President of Creative Affairs Karen Moy bought a copy of the highly-acclaimed comic book "Kraven's Last Hunt" on Amazon last week.
Although Marvel gets to include the wall-crawler in its expansive cinematic universe, Sony still has final creative and distribution control over any "Spider-Man" film.
It turns out Marvel wasn't so keen on just mailing a copy of the comics to Sony hence the latter had to purchase their own.
"This can't be a coincidence. Why would the head of the story department buy a trade paperback about one of Spider-Man's greatest foes for anything OTHER than research purposes? It's safe to say Sony is looking into the possibility of Kraven as their bad guy," Heroic Hollywood founder Umberto Gonzalez speculated.
Marvel describes Kraven as a big game hunter obsessed with hunting down what to him is the biggest game of all: Spider-Man. Besting out the wall-crawler would prove that he is the best hunter in the world. This desire gave him a new purpose in life although exotic elixirs enabled him to have his superhuman strength. He is a master strategist who carefully plans out traps for his game before killing them with his bare-hands.
As for "Kraven's Last Hunt", IGN ranked it the sixth greatest "Spider-Man" storyline ever. The site went on to spill some light spoilers about it. You've been warned.
In the comics, Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson are newlyweds when Kraven appears to hunt down and apparently kill Spider-Man. It can be assumed that Sony and Marvel would merely draw inspiration from the source material rather than adapt it to the film entirely, if in fact they are to go with Kraven as their new villain.
What do you think? How do you see Kraven the Hunter fit in a John Hughes-inspired Spider-Man movie?
