Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ Rumors, Features, Release Date: Bigger S6 Coming Later in August
Samsung created a unique smartphone with curved edges capable of displaying notifications. Now, a bigger version of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is coming.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ will utilize the same design that the Galaxy S6 Edge used, but it will offer a larger screen, according to Tech Radar. It looks like Samsung will introduce the Galaxy S6 Edge+ at its Unpacked event on Aug. 13 in New York. After introducing the phone, it is expected to go up for sale on Aug. 21.
The Galaxy S6 Edge+ will copy the design of the Galaxy S6 Edge with a glass back, a metal frame and curves on both edges of the display. It will actually look quite similar to the Galaxy Note 4, but with the curved edges.
Screen size is the biggest change from the Galaxy S6 Edge to the Galaxy S6 Edge+. The screen will be increased from 5.1 inches to 5.7 inches, quite the increase. The resolution is expected to be either 1,440 x 2,560 or 1,600 x 2,560 pixels. The screen will be Super AMOLED and very sharp.
Cameras on the Galaxy S6 Edge+ are not expected to change, with the 16 megapixel (MP) camera on the rear and the 5 MP front-facing camera. Optical image stabilization is expected to remain for the camera.
To support the big and vibrant screen, a better battery is needed. The Galaxy S6 Edge has only a 2,560 mAh battery and that might not be enough for the Galaxy S6 Edge+ to last very long since the bigger screen will demand more power to display the sharp images.
The Galaxy S6 Edge+ has been rumored to be using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor instead of Samsung's own Exynos 7420 used in the Galaxy S6 Edge. The Snapdragon 808 is a hexa-core processor, while the Exynos 7420 is an octa-core processor. If Samsung chooses the Snapdragon 808 processor, it would be a slight downgrade from the Galaxy S6 Edge.
A fingerprint sensor is almost guaranteed in the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Samsung might also make the curved edges even more useful. The edges could allow quick access to apps with a simple screen tap.
The price of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ will be about $875 without a contract, according to SamMobile.
