Radamel Falcao had been hoping that his move to Chelsea would provide the boost that his career so desperately needs.

After all, coach Jose Mourinho was a staunch supporter of the Colombian and claimed that he would get him back to his best form.

He had scored all of four goals for Manchester United last season after close to 30 in 2012-13 for Atletico Madrid.

After his display against Arsenal in the Community Shield, it became clear that this may not come about.

Albeit, 45 minutes is as small a sample size as they come, but Falcao has not scored in a competitive match since January. That includes games with Manchester United, Colombia in the Copa America and now the Community Shield.

Against Arsenal, the Colombian looked overwhelmed offensively, shooting wide, looking as slow as ever and ultimately putting his team down a man. Whence he was once a key target man capable of playing well in the air and outmuscling players to balls in the box, he now looks like a man struggling to keep the ball and make runs to help his teammates.

Falcao was poor in the Copa America and wound up losing a starting spot once the quarterfinals came about. He has a primary chance to regain his form as top Chelsea striker Diego Costa is out with a prolonged injury. This is as good a chance as Falcao will have at winning a starting spot. Loic Remy is his main competition but no one will doubt that Falcao at his best is better than Remy in peak form.

The question revolves around whether "El Tigre" recoups that touch. His knee injury has devastated his speed (which he had little of) and made him weaker both in the air and on the ground. Strength was always a big part of his game, but without it, he is a shell of the player that made a name for himself.

Falcao has to take advantage of the opportunity presented to him with Chelsea. It may be the last one he gets.
