Josh McCown leads the race for the starting quarterback position, but Johnny Manziel still has a shot to become the No. 1 quarterback of the Cleveland Browns for the upcoming 2015 NFL season.

According to Sporting News, McCown is playing the starter's role in training camp with Manziel as his backup. Browns coach Mike Pettine said, though, that nothing is final as they have yet to conduct a meeting about it.

Pettine added that he is loving the work being put in by both quarterbacks, and he believes both can contribute to the team based on the way they are performing in training camp.

"I can't be more pleased with the quarterback room," Pettine said. "How they hold each other accountable. The work they put in. They know as quarterbacks they have to put in more work than everybody else. So far it's showing up on the field."

Late last month, Pettine also confirmed that McCown will likely start for them in Week 1 against the New York Jets, but he also insisted that there could still be changes because anything can happen in the coming days.

McCown, who signed a three-year deal with the Browns in March, started in 11 games last season. He went just 1-10 and completed 56.3 percent of his passes for 2,206 yards 11 touchdowns against 14 interceptions.

"I wouldn't say I'm guaranteeing today that Josh McCown is going to be the starter against the Jets," Pettine told reporters. "A lot can happen in a preseason. If guys are getting the two's reps and all of a sudden they're playing really well and the guy with the starters, you're maybe not pleased with and you start to mix those reps."

Manziel, the 22nd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, had a rocky rookie season on and off the field. The 22-year-old quarterback completed just 18 of his 35 passes in five appearances with two interceptions.

Off the field, the former Texas A&M was also involved in controversies and undesirable behaviour like too much partying the night before a scheduled practice. Earlier this year, Manziel submitted himself to treatment because he wants to become a better player and teammate.
