Square Enix has finally dropped a timeline of when the highly awaited "Final Fantasy 15" will arrive. Its game director has revealed at Gamescom that the new title will be released before 2017.

Square Enix is in Cologne, Germany, for the Gamescom event when Game Spot talked to director Hajime Tabata to ask for the title's launch date.

"At the very least, I can tell you that it isn't going to be released this year," said the game director. "I think we'll be able to tell you when we're making the announcement around PAX Prime, at the end of this month."

He also assured that the developers have already "set down the release date" and are strictly following a road map leading to the set launch date.

A lot of fans who have been waiting for the game to arrive are becoming impatient but Tabata hinted that "Final Fantasy 15" will come sooner than many think.

"We can certainly say to people: it's not going to be 2017," he added. "It's going to be before that."

Simply put, fans can now expect the game to release in 2016. Of course, no exact date has been given but with a specified timeline, fans can rest a little bit easier knowing that it is coming soon.

Meanwhile, the director also teased the possible inclusion of airships in the upcoming title.

"If the height that the airship can fly is limited, then it would technically be possible," Tabata said, during the Q&A session, which Gematsu attended. "There is a good chance it will be in the game and at least fly at bird's height."

However, Tabata also added that if the developers will not be able to make the airships in time for the launch, then it will be released as part of an expansion pack at a later date.

Aside from the airships, the Cross-Chain combo system is already being developed, revealed the director. However, it still needs a lot of calibration and fine-tuning before the final alpha version comes out.

"Final Fantasy 15" will be available to current generation consoles of PlayStation4 and Xbox One.
