'Preacher' on AMC: Comic Series Turning Into TV Show Produced By Seth Rogan, Evan Goldberg
After rumors circled the Internet about this show, AMC has confirmed that it will take Preacher from the pages of comic books to the TV screen. The show will follow on the footsteps of other highly watched AMC series like Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, which also based on a graphic novel.
The comic series, created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, debuted in the 90s but will finally make it to TV with an experienced team behind it. With Breaking Bad over, one its producers, Sam Catlin, will become the new show's showrunner and executive producer. Joining him is Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg from This is the End will also be executive producers as well as right the pilot draft.
AMC's description of the show tells the story of a Texas preacher who has lost in faith in God and believes Him to shirking his duties. Alongside his vampire ex-girlfriend, he goes in search of God. The Saint of Killers, a gun-slinging bad guy hell bent on killing the preacher, follows them.
The Verge reports that the comic's creators are very excited that it will become a TV show and are glad of who has taken the reins. "I'm particularly impressed that Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Sam Catlin understand Preacher fully -- meaning they get it for what it is, not some vague approximation," Ennis said.
Rogen and Goldberg are also excited for the show to become a reality. They said in a statement: "We've tried for seven years to work on Preacher and we're so psyched AMC is finally letting us. It is our favorite comic of all time, and we're going to do everything we can to do it right."
Will the show have the same success as other AMC shows? No one knows yet for sure but, with a good cast and story, it could just become a reality. Do you have any thoughts on who can play these roles? Leave a comment below.
