iPhone 6s, 6s Plus Rumors: Next-Gen iPhones Seen on Data Logs, No Indication of iPhone 6c Release
Anticipation for Apple's next generation budget phone has been put on hold.
A recent analytics data discovery has suggested that the rumored iPhone 6c won't be released together with the iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus later this year.
According to Fiksu, only two upcoming iPhones have been traced in their logs.
This development seems to debunk trusted leaker @evleaks aka Evan Blass' claim that there will be three new iPhones this year.
However Phone Arena speculated that an iPhone 6c "might be rolling under another code name."
Predictions on the iPhone 6c's release peg the date to the later part of this year or the second quarter of 2016. If and when it does arrive, the device will be the imminent successor to 2013's iPhone 5c, a plastic framed budget handset.
The iPhone 6c will reportedly be using a new 14/16nm FinFET chip from TSMC and Samsung. This will give the device an improved performance while consuming less power. Other rumored features include the Force Touch technology, 2GB of RAM and a 12MP main camera.
Meanwhile, the two iPhones that were detected exhibited the code names "iphone 8,1" and "iphone 8,2." It can be safely assumed that the two discoveries pertain to the iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus. Last year's iPhone 6 was code named "iPhone 7,1" while the 6 Plus had the alias "iPhone 7,2."
The data logs from the mobile marketing company also pointed out that the "iphone8,1" and "iphone8,2" are using a multitude of apps related to travel, games, and lifestyle. The data logs also indicate that majority of the new handsets' usages are traced from the U.S., with hits from Germany and Brazil as well. This suggests that the devices are currently being tested in the listed areas.
But when will the iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus arrive?
According to inside sources via BuzzFeed, Apple is planning to stage an event during the second week of September with the most possible date being September 9, since it is the same date that the company held a press event last year.
Apple is expected to launch the new iPhones, an improved version of the Apple TV and a few iPads at the event.
