Nude Church in Virginia: Why Does White Tail Chapel Allow Naked Worship? [VIDEO]
It seems that a small rural church in Virginia has taken the words of the Bible way too literally -- White Tail Chapel now allows its congregation to attend services in the nude.
Allen Parker, the pastor of the church in the town of Southampton, claims that many of the most important moments in the Bible happened while the protagonists were naked. "When [Jesus] was born, he was naked. When he was crucified, he was naked. And when he arose, he left his clothes in the tomb and he was naked," he says. "If God made us that way, how can that be wrong?"
Parker elaborates his opinions on nudity from the book of Genesis, in which Adam and Eve were originally described as "both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed." They saw their nudity as shameful, only after sinfully consuming the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, which made them to sew fig trees into loincloths.
The pastor also says that being naked is to "equalize" everybody in front of God. In other words, beneath any personal wealth or glamorous external appearance, people are all the same, just simple human beings. "There's not a feeling that you have to be better than one another, physically," he adds. "We're humans, we have scars, we have what we have. It's learning to love and accept that."
In addition, several couples, including Robert and Katie Church, have recently been married in fully nude services, in which all members of both families are encouraged to leave their clothes at home. Robert says the attendees were far more interested in "hearing the word of God and speaking the word of God" than analyzing the naked bodies on display.
