'Tarzan 3D' Movie Release Date & Cast Updates: Alexander Skarsgard Grabs Sushi as Warner Announces July 2016 Premiere
Alexander Skarsgard was spotted yesterday at the Sushi Roku in West Hollywood, California grabbing a quick lunch. Like going to a funeral, the 37-year-old actor was dressed in all black.
But the "True Blood" star has no reason to mourn as Warner Brothers officially announced the release date for Skarsgard's upcoming live-action 3D film, "Tarzan". The studio has already started the pre-production for the movie and is set to hit theaters on July 1, 2016.
David Yates, known for directing the last four "Harry Potter" films, will oversee the filming and will follow the original screenplay based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' works. Skarsgard will take on the role of the title character. The film will tackle his story as an orphaned boy raised in the wild before returning to the civilized world of London.
He will be joined by "The Wolf of Wallstreet" breakout star Margot Robbie, who will play the role of Jane. Other stars confirmed to join the cast of "Tarzan" are Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz.
In an article on The Wrap, Sue Kroll, Warner Bros. president of worldwide marketing and international distribution said, "Tarzan has been an enduring and enigmatic figure in literature and cinema for more than a century. The adventures of a man who was torn between two worlds has entertained and intrigued people young and old, and we are excited to bring him to the screen for a new generation."
The studio's president for domestic distribution Dan Fellman added, "This is a perfect entry for the summer movie season corridor, with a terrific combination of action, adventure, romance and suspense that is sure to appeal to a broad audience."
Aside from "Tarzan", Skarsgard is also set to appear alongside Kristen Wiig in the 70s-era coming-of-age film, "The Diary of a Teenage Girl." He will play Monroe, a man involved in a love triangle between Wiig's character and her daughter, played by Bel Powley.
