Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge+ Features: No 128 GB Storage Option Will Be Coming
Samsung made the ultimate error Friday morning. They teased a 128 GB storage option for their two newest phones, the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+. Unfortunately for storage lovers, this option is not coming to either phone, CNET reports.
At Samsung's Unpacked event Thursday, the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ were introduced. The two phones were said to be offered with either 32 GB or 64 GB of storage space.
On Friday morning, Samsung gave hope to future buyers of the two phones by listing the 128 GB storage option on websites for both phones, according to Tech Radar. When someone visited the two sites, they saw choices for 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB. The 128 GB option was listed in error and will be removed soon, according to a Samsung spokeswoman, and only the 32 GB and 64 GB models will be available.
A 128 GB storage option for these two phones might be popular among those who like to store a ton of files on their phones, but it would also be very expensive. Apple offers the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in a 128 GB model, but Samsung wants to make their phones more affordable and plans on reducing the cost of their phones in the future.
Other barriers that would prevent Samsung from offering a 128 GB option for the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ are new policies by wireless carriers. Carriers like Verizon are starting to eliminate phone subsidies that are offered in exchange for signing contracts. Instead, carriers will require customers to pay the full retail cost of the phones. Once customers saw big price tag on a 128 GB smartphone, they probably would not shell out the cash.
Samsung does offer a 128 GB option on the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, two very recent phones from the company, but with smaller screens than the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+. The Galaxy Note 4 is only available in a 32 GB model, but has a microSD slot that makes it expandable to 128 GB. The Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 do not offer a microSD slot, capping their maximum storage at 64 GB.
