Bundesliga Week 1 Scores & Table: Borussia Dortmund Impressive in Season Opener
Thomas Tuchel's first league game with Borussia Dortmund started in the right direction as they beat Borussia Monchengladbach in impressive fashion. Bayern and Schalke also got wins to start the new season of Bundesliga, per separate reports from Goal.
Borussia Dortmund 4 - 0 Borussia Monchengladbach
Borussia Dortmund is back after a 4-0 win over last year's third placers, Borussia Monchengladbach, at the Signal Iduna Park.
Marco Reus opened the scoring in the 15th minute with an excellent shot near the corner following a good pass from Shinji Kagawa. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang doubled the lead with a header from a perfect cross by Marcel Schmelzer six minutes later.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan continued his run of great form with a brace. The Armenian scored in the 33rd and 50th minute to give Thomas Tuchel a win in his Bundesliga debut.
Bayern München 5 - 0 Hamburger SV
Defending champions, Bayern München, began their campaign by hammering Hamburg with five goals at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Medhi Benatia opened the scoring with a header in the 27th minute.
Robert Lewandowski added to the lead in the 53rd minute with a goal from eight yards. Thomas Muller scored two more goals within a four-minute span to put the visitors away.
Douglas Costa, who signed with FC Shakhtar Donetsk in July, completed the rout in the 87th minute. Bayern is looking for their fourth consecutive Bundesliga title.
Schalke 04 3 - 0 Werder Bremen
André Breitenreiter started his new job at Schalke with a 3-0 win at Werder Bremen's Weserstadion. Bremen defender, Theodor Gebre Selassie, scored an own goal to put the visitors on board at the 34th minute.
Joel Matip set up Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in the 68th minute while Klaas-Jan Huntelaar finished the game, scoring in the 85th from a Leroy Sane pass.
VfL Wolfsburg 2 - 1 Eintracht Frankfurt
Last year's runner-up and Pokal champions, VfL Wolfsburg, won a hard-fought match to begin their campaign. Ivan Perisic opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a header from a Max Kruse cross.
Bas Dost made it 2-0 four minutes later with a shot from close range. Former Leverkusen midfielder, Stefan Reinartz, scored two minutes later on his Frankfurt debut.
Wolfsburg goalkeeper, Koen Casteels, denied a late equalizer from Joel Gerezgiher to keep the score 2-1.
