'Toy Story 4' Spoilers & Release Date: Woody & Bo Peep Love Story Featured in June 2017 Movie
For months, fans have been abuzz on what "Toy Story 4" will be about. Now, Disney Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter has validated much of the rumors as he has revealed that the fourth movie will be a love story between Woody and Bo Peep.
According to IGN, Lasseter teased about the film at a conference in the recently concluded D23 Expo.
"Each of the stories is a different genre and Toy Story 4 is a love story. It's a love story between Woody and Bo Peep. Bo's returned for Toy Story 4. Woody and Buzz head out to find Bo. It's a very, very emotional story, and it's very fun doing a story about [those two characters]," he said.
The 58-year-old producer then went on to say that Disney and Pixar did not want to add to the trilogy unless they had a story that would eclipse that of prior films.
Lasseter explained, "At Pixar and at Disney we only do a sequel if we have come up with something that's as good or better than the original. That's our rule."
To recall, "Toy Story 3" arguably had the best story book ending that a film trilogy could ever hope to have. It concluded the toys' chapter in Andy's life beautifully, eliciting a lot of emotion.
As with other movie franchises that have done one sequel too many, fans fear a fourth film would be detrimental to the already "perfect" trilogy. However, Lasseter insisted that the only thing "Toy Story 4" will have in common with prior films is that it would be revolutionary.
"It's something we've never done with Toy Story before. "We don't do things just to print money. It's about great stories, that's what we do," Lasseter said via BBC.
If there is a studio we can trust to make groundbreaking animated films, Pixar is eons above everybody else. It is easy to imagine that the acclaimed animated studios will be turning doubters into admirers once again with "Toy Story 4."
Lasseter and Pixar Animated Studios rose to fame in 1995 with "Toy Story," a movie about toys that come to life. Skeptics initially belittled the idea of a feature-length computer-animated film, to which "Toy Story" was the first. The movie went on to be a smash hit and has since spawned two sequels. The trilogy has grossed approximately $2 billion internationally.
"Toy Story 4" will hit theaters on July 14, 2017.
