Google Nexus 5: Google to Bring Back Nexus 5 With New Features
The Google Nexus 5 was first introduced in 2013. After some success, Google decided to kill the Nexus 5 this year, focusing on other Nexus devices. Now, Google plans to resurrect the Nexus 5 and reintroduce it along with a new Nexus 6, Tech Radar reports.
The next Nexus 5 will likely be made by LG and now photos are surfacing of the upcoming device.
A user on the Google Nexus Community Indonesia forum has released a photo of the back of a device that is reportedly the new Nexus 5. The white back of the Nexus plastic panel displays the large "Nexus" logo. On the top of the device, there is a rear-facing camera popping out of the back along with a flash to its side.
Right below the camera is a metal circle about the same size as the camera's lens. This could be the Nexus 5's fingerprint sensor used to unlock the phone.
The corners of the device look rounded off and it is unclear what material the new Nexus 5 will use, but it might end up being plastic.
The processor that the Nexus 5 will use could be the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip, but Nexus devices do not always elect to use the latest technology, so it could use an older chip like the Snapdragon 810 or 808.
Pocket Lint believes that LG will elect to use the Snapdragon 808 chip in the Nexus 5, along with 3 GB of RAM. That is the same processor used in the LG G4.
For storage, Nexus devices do not include a microSD slots so limited storage will be available. Expect a 16 GB and 32 GB option for the Nexus 5.
Nexus devices usually are the first to see the latest updates to Google's Android operating system. Since Android M is coming out soon, the Nexus 5 will likely be one of the first devices to offer it.
The new Nexus 5 is also expected to have a USB-C port, which supports USB-C cords. These cords are said to charge devices faster than older cords.
There is no official date for the release of the Nexus 5, but it should debut sometime this fall, likely October.
