Cuba Travel Services: American Airlines Offers Charter Flights From Los Angeles to Havana in December
American Airlines will be offering charter flights from Los Angeles to Havana in December.
According to the Miami Herald, American Airlines announced that flights will start on Dec. 12. Flights will leave from Los Angeles International Airport and will land at José Martí International Airport. This will be the first flight from the west coast since Cuba and the United States improved their diplomatic relations last month.
In a statement, Art Torno, senior vice president of American, stated, "This new charter flight shows how we continue to expand our reach by offering new routes and services our customers want."
According to the Los Angeles Times, American Airlines will also offer flights from Miami with destinations besides Havana. The Cuban cites of Camaguey, Cienfuegos, Holguin and Santa Clara will also be potential flight destinations.
Last month, the United States and Cuba opened embassies in Havana and Washington, D.C.
In a statement, American CEO and Chairman Doug Parker talked about the historic moment, stating, "The reopening of the United States and Cuban embassies in Havana and Washington is an important step toward building new commercial relationships and re-establishing scheduled air service between the U.S. and Cuba. American Airlines has operated charter flights to Cuba for nearly 25 years and we stand ready to begin scheduled service when it's allowed."
The prices for the charter flights is unknown.
American Airlines is not the only travel business to take advantage of the restored diplomatic relations between Cuba and the U.S. Last month, Carnival Cruises lines announced that it secured approval from U.S officials to begin traveling to Cuba next year.
