‘Resident Evil 6' Release Date, Plot, Cast News: Ali Larter Returns with Milla Jovovich, Confirms Movie is the Final Chapter
Actress Ali Larter confirmed to IGN last week that she would be reprising her role in "Resident Evil 6" as Claire Redfield, and that the film would be the Paul W.S. Anderson franchise's final installment.
"I know it is," Larter, 39, told IGN.
"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" will mark Larter's third run as Claire, and she's content that the series is ending.
"How many movies have this kind of fanbase and get to be made six times?" she said. "I think that's extraordinary. It's a total testament to [series star] Milla [Jovovich] and Paul. I'm so grateful to them, that they chose me to be a part of it halfway through, and they've kept me along for the ride."
Larter said that what she likes most about the storyline is that it includes two women who are not competing with each other.
"You know, there are such easy clichés these two could fall into, but this is definitely a female power movie," she said.
Female-led action films are rare in Hollywood, but times are changing, according to the actress.
"It's baffling [that they're not more popular], but I do believe it's changing," she said. "I mean, look at things like 'Lucy' and other things. I do believe it's happening."
While Larter would not provide details about the "Resident Evil 6" plot or where Claire will be in the film, she did speak highly of the screenplay.
"We are not allowed to say one thing," she revealed. "I am held to secrecy, but what I can tell you is that the script is amazing. They're really wrapping up the whole series, so that just makes it a little more poignant. To be able to come back and reprise my role as Claire and my relationship with Alice, with Umbrella Corp. -- you know, I'm excited to get back in it. I think the fans are just going to be beyond excited."
Meanwhile, 39-year-old Milla Jovovich, who is married to Anderson, gave birth to the couple's second daughter, Dashiel, on April 1. She has been hiking and fitness training in preparation for her role as Alice in the film.
Production on "Resident Evil 6," a.k.a. "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter," begins September in South Africa. The film is scheduled for a Jan. 27, 2017 release.
