It seems that the fourth generation Apple TV will be introduced just less than a month from now, to the delight of excited couch potatoes everywhere.

Initially, the Apple TV (2015) was supposed to be unveiled in June. However, the tech giant postponed its debut, according to John Paczkowski of BuzzFeed, to iron out a few features of the iOS 9 on the set-top-box, although there were rumors that the delay was caused by the scarcity of content deals Apple was getting at the time.

Luckily, that is all in the past. Apple is apparently ready to finally showcase its improved TV shortly. Needless to say, the device will come with a string of new features.

For starters, the next-gen Apple TV will be notches ahead of previous iterations as it would be the first to run on a fully fledged iOS core, 9to5Mac reported.

The site also noted that the new TV, codenamed J34, will run on a made-for-TV version of the iOS 9 operating system.

In terms of appearance, the new Apple TV will reportedly flaunt a thinner and wider body as compared to that of the last model which came out five years ago. The new model will still be encased in a mostly plastic frame for seamless Wi-Fi networking and Bluetooth compatibility.

In addition, 9to5Mac said a recent staple for iOS handsets will also be making its debut with the new Apple TV. The new model will now have support for the voice-based Siri system, which can be accessed through a microphone in its new remote controller.

The supplementary device is said to be bigger than previous versions. It could take commands via touch gestures as well as infrared and Bluetooth connectivity. The controller also has a built-in audio technology for private listening and of course, for the Siri feature.

Moving on to its software, the new set-top-box will be powered by a new dual-core A8 system processor and will have an increased internal storage, Buzz Feed earlier reported.

The new Apple TV will be also capable of universal searching across different apps and devices. The "Proactive Search" lets users view results spanning from the Apple Music library, iTunes Store, to Netflix.

In addition, the next-gen model will support an Apple TV Store app that will allow users to access specific media channels, games, and news applications.

The price of the upcoming Apple TV is still up in the air. However, CNet speculated that the box will cost around $99 to rival the Roku 3, Amazon Fire TV, and Google Nexus Player.

If the reports are true, then the Apple TV (2015) will be unveiled together with the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus at an Apple event this coming September 9.
