Baron Davis NBA Return: Former Point Guard Says He's Shaq Fat, Hints at Comeback in Steve Nash Documentary
Former NBA all-star Baron Davis last played pro ball for the (dysfunctional) New York Knicks franchise during the 2011-12 season. Davis went tore his MCL and ACL during first round playoff series against eventual the NBA champion Miami Heat.
Davis wants to return to the NBA, but as Kelly Dwyer of Yahoo Sports noted back in July, a comeback is highly unlikely.
"Baron Davis was not that great a basketball player when he went down with that injury in 2012. Conditioning issues from the lockout the year before could explain away some of his declining production, but Davis' poor play with the New York Knicks in 2011-12 seemed the logical extension of a player that had bounced to his fourth team in less than four years, shooting low percentage shots and turning the ball over far too much along the way."
Still, as the saying goes, "you can't keep a good man down." Davis has made a mockumentary that shows him on the comeback trail with another famous face as his trainer. In order to get back into game day shape the 34-year-old Los Angeles native has enlisted fellow all-star and current Los Angles Lakers elder statesman Steve Nash to help him out.
The mockumentary is hilarious and it features interviews with Davis and Nash along with some training sequences. The two ballers hit the hardwood and ran some conditioning drills. Davis still looks like he can dribble, pass and shoot the rock. Yet, the best part of the video is where Nash remarks that Davis needs to lose his big gut. Davis responds that he isn't Charles Barkley fat (i.e. lazy), rather he's Shaq fat (i.e. dominant).
Whether an actual comeback is in the offing or not Davis will likely return to the NBA spotlight as a television analyst. He's an engaging personality with enormous respect for the game that made him wealthy beyond his wildest dreams.
