Europa League Scores: Borussia Dortmund Makes Amazing Comeback, MŠK Žilina Stun Bilbao [Highlights]
The UEFA Europa League play-off round kicked off the first leg matches with surprises and comebacks. Borussia Dortmund came back to win against Norwegian side ODD after being down 3-0 after 22 minutes. Athletic Bilbao lost to Slovakian side MŠK Žilina after a 2-0 lead at half-time. Southampton salvaged a draw against Midtjylland at St. Mary's with a second-half penalty.
Borussia Dortmund 4 - 3 ODD Ballklubb
Norwegian side ODD surprised Dortmund in the first 22 minutes of the match. Jone Samuelsen scored in just 14 seconds to give ODD the lead. Fredrik Nordkvelle doubled the lead in the 20th minute and Espen Ruud added a third two minutes later with a wonderful free-kick.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang cut the deficit in the 34th minute with a goal after an Ä°lkay GündoÄan shot was saved by the ODD keeper. Shinji Kagawa opened the scoring in the second half with a fine volley two minutes in.
Aubameyang tied the score in the 75th minute, receiving a pass from Marcel Schmelzer. Henrikh Mkhitaryan finished the amazing comeback with a header from a Kagawa cross five minutes before the game ended.
Athletic Bilbao 2 - 3 MŠK Žilina
Athletic Bilbao followed up their Spanish Super Cup win over Barcelona with a 3-2 loss to Slovenian club MŠK Žilina. Athletic started the game with a 2-0 lead. Sabin scored the opening goal in the 16th minute and Kike Sola followed in the 33rd.
MŠK Žilina staged a comeback in the final 24 minutes of the game. Jakub Paur started the comeback with a goal in the 66th minute. William Oliveira scored the final two goals, one in the 77th minute and the winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
English side Southampton managed a draw against Danish club, Midtjylland, at home. The men of St. Mary's missed several chances to put the visitors away. Former Southampton academy graduate, Tim Sparv, scored for Midtjylland in the 45th minute.
Jay Rodriguez equalized it for The Saints in the 56th minute with a penalty, scoring his first goal since March 2014. Midtylland is going back home with an away goal advantage.
