Oxygen marked a milestone on Friday by announcing the highly anticipated first over-the-air (OTA) update for Oxygen OS. The all-new Oxygen OS 2.0.1 promises a better performance with notable bug fixes, including a patch for the Stagefright security bug.

A statement on the official OnePlus forums announced the updated Oxygen OS.

Aside from the Stagefright patch, the Oxygen OS 2.0.1 features improved battery performance and support for global carrier APNs. An updated user interface is also a key improvement. Among the issues addressed in this version are problems with Google Photos zooming, Dark Mode instability, and importing and exporting contacts.

The Stagefright security patch is an important feature that protects Oxygen users from the bug that puts all Android users in threat of having their phone and data vulnerable to hackers.

According to a report by PC Mag last July, Stagefright is the result of a "recently detected flaw in Google's open source media library code, which allows attackers to execute code on your device just by sending you a text message." Potentially, it could be in your phone even without your knowledge; there are no signs that indicate its presence.

Stagefright is a publicized bug that plagued many Android users. Although there are a couple of tricks that help users protect themselves from the breach, the most effective and foolproof way is by updating the OS to a version that is designed to solve the problem.

The new OS with the patch comes just in time for the brand new OnePlus 2, the second installment to the best-selling OnePlus. The new flagship model offers an upgrade for Oxygen fans with a sleeker aesthetic than its predecessor.

Notable features of the OnePlus 2 include wide range band support for service providers globally, plus a dual SIM setup and stunning 5.5" IPS LCD display. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon810 processor with 4G LTE and an octa-core CPU.

According to Wall Street Journal, Oxygen's so-called "2016 flagship killer" provides good value for its surprisingly affordable $330 price point. While it may fall short of cutting-edge features of other brands' premium smartphones, the OnePlus 2 is a bargain that offers an amazing camera and the useful USB Type-C port.

The OnePlus 2 is available for sale at the company's website, while the OTA update begins the roll-out in India before making its way to Oxygen users all over the world.
