iPad Pro Release Date, Features, Specs & Rumors 2014: Next Tablet To Have Touch ID Sensor?
Apple has big plans for 2014. Refreshes to the Apple TV and iMac are expected. The launch of the iWatch will be a big deal too. But the biggest Apple product of the year will likely be the iPad Pro.
The iPad Pro will be just like its moniker suggests, a professional tablet computer for work and play. Its features will be forward thinking and class leading. The biggest feature, quite literally, will be the 12.9-inch screen. For those of you keeping score, you'll know that currently the largest display on an iPad is 9.7 inches. On Apple's online store you get choose between the 9.7-inch iPad 2 or iPad Air. If you need a much larger display you'd be better off waiting for the iPad Pro to be released. No one wants to have buyer's remorse.
Apple will equip the iPad Pro's display with 4K resolution. Say again? That's right -- 4K resolution is arriving to Apple's product lineup for the first time courtesy of the iPad Pro. Now what does 4K mean exactly? First off, take a deep breath, 4K doesn't mean the iPad Pro will cost 4 grand. 4K simply means that the amount of pixels packed into the display work out to be four times the resolution of Full HD 1080p. Sometimes 4K is referred to as Quad HD or Ultra HD.
Now 4K is a flashy feature. But don't get me wrong, its addition to the iPad lineup isn't purely a marketing decision. Having such a high resolution display means that users will enjoy a much sharper, crisper image as well as a greatly improved color gamut. Yet, it's important to note that you really won't be using all of that resolution. Text and icons would appear so tiny that the iPad Pro would become almost useless. So Apple will employ scaling (similar to what we have with the Retina MacBook Pros) to make all of the onscreen content appear a normal size.
Other rumored features include a Touch ID fingerprint scanner. Touch ID has only appeared in one Apple product to date, the iPhone 5s. The iPad Pro may also be super scratch-proof thanks to Sapphire glass. If Sapphire glass isn't used, then expect the iPad Pro to be protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
