The Nintendo 2DS will become more affordable at the end of August. The entry-level portable gaming system will cost $100 starting Aug. 30, CNET reports.

The 2DS originally cost $130, but Nintendo announced the price reduction Thursday. Included in the $100 price is a copy of the popular racing game Mario Kart 7. Mario Kart 7 was also included for the $130 price.

The 2DS was first introduced in October 2013 as an entry-level portable console for first-time gamers. The device features two screens and has an Internet connection so that players can play against each other online.

Nintendo has mostly focused on the 3DS, which is the most popular portable put out by the Japanese gaming giant. The 3DS has a clamshell design and supports 3D gaming without glasses. Nintendo focuses on producing games for the 3DS.

The 2DS does not have the clamshell design and does not offer 3D gaming. However, most games made for the 3DS also work for the 2DS. Additionally, the games made for Nintendo's original dual-screen portable the Nintendo DS also are playable on the 2DS.

The price reduction of the 2DS is not expected to make a huge splash on the portable gaming market. More users are now turning to mobile games that can be played on smartphones and tablets. Smartphones and tablets also offer a greater variety of other functions built-in to them than the 2DS.

The 2DS, the 3DS and Sony's portable, the Playstation Vita are focused on just gameplay with their devices.

Nintendo is now embracing the mobile way of video games by announcing in March that they would be producing games that can be played on mobile devices like smartphones. In the past, Nintendo insisted on avoiding mobile operating systems. Nintendo does not plan to stop producing their portable consoles like the 2DS though.
