Real Madrid Most Goals Ever: Cristiano Ronaldo Set to Break Raúl González Scoring Record
Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid are set to begin another exciting La Liga season.
Last season ended in disappointment as their rivals, Barcelona, won it all with Lionel Messi leading the way. Real Madrid will attempt to win their 34th Spanish League title, but it is Ronaldo who is on the cusp of making history.
Ronaldo currently has 313 career goals as a member of Real Madrid. That's the second most in Real Madrid franchise history behind only the great Raúl González, who has 323 career goals. González played almost his entire career for Real Madrid, 741 games, eventually surpassing Alfredo Di Stéfano for the most goals in franchise history. Ronaldo surpassed Stéfano for second place on the all-time list last season.
Not only is Ronaldo approaching González's all-time scoring record, but he is also nearing his La Liga goal mark as well. Since transferring from Manchester United in 2009 to the Spanish League, Ronaldo has scored an incredible 225 La Liga goals. González is the all-time Real Madrid scorer in La Liga history with 228 goals. It's pretty safe to say Ronaldo will eventually break that record sometime this season.
We must also keep in mind that Ronaldo currently holds the record for most goals by a Real Madrid player in a single season. His 48 goals last year broke his own mark of 46 set back in the 2011-12 season. Mexican forward Hugo Sánchez previously held the single season Real Madrid record with 38 goals, which he scored back in the 1989-90 season.
Messi holds the record for most goals scored in a La Liga season with 50. Messi also has the most goals in La Liga history with 286. Ronaldo is currently in sixth place on the all-time La Liga scoring list, which is beyond unbelievable considering the fact that he has only played six years in Spain.
What makes Ronaldo's statistics and goal scoring mark so impressive is the rate he is scoring at. Ronaldo is just 10 goals behind González, but he has played in 441 less total games. In other words, Ronaldo is scoring at more than twice the rate as the highest scoring player in Real Madrid history. Ronaldo has played in 200 La Liga games, but another 100 when we take into account the Copa del Rey, Champions League, Spanish Super Cup and other tournaments with Real Madrid.
Ronaldo recently bought an apartment in New York City. Some soccer fans believe (or maybe hope) that Ronaldo will transfer to a Major League Soccer team once he eclipses González's scoring record. That's for speculation and beyond. For now, Ronaldo is on pace to shatter Real Madrid's scoring record.
If Ronaldo were to play in 741 carer games for Real Madrid as González did, and score at the same rate he is now, he would finish his Real Madrid career with 773 goals!
