We are currently in the middle of the games and there are going to be 98 events taking place in fifteen disciplines and in seven different winter sports. The seven sports include skating, bobsledding, skiing, biathlon, curling, ice hockey, and luge. The skiing sub-sports being played include: alpine skiing; cross-country skiing; snowboarding; ski jumping; freestyle; and Nordic combined. For skating the sub-sports include: speed skating; figure skating; and short track speed skating. Bobsleigh and skeleton are the two bobsledding sports being played. Some of the events include team relay luge, ski half-pipe, and women's ski jumping.

Currently Germany is in the lead with seven gold medals, followed by Switzerland in second place with five. Russia, Canada, and the United States all have four gold medals.

Germany dominated all the gold medals in the luge events: Felix Loch and Natalie Geisenberger won gold medals for men's singles and women's singles respectively, Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt won the gold for the doubles event, and Germany also won the gold for the team relay in luge. The United States won gold medals in the following skiing events: two for men's slope style (one in snowboarding and one in freestyle skiing); one for women's snowboarding half-pipe; and one for women's snowboarding slope style. The Games will conclude on Feb. 23 with the closing ceremony held at 8:00 p.m. MSK at the Fisht Olympic Stadium located in Russia.

The Sochi Olympics mark the 22nd time that the Winter Olympic Games has been played.

The opening ceremony was held on Feb. 7. The Sochi Olympics Games are organized by The Sochi Organizing Committee (SOC). Russia won in a voting election against South Korea and Austria in order to host the twenty-second Winter Olympics this year.
