EPL Transfer: Arsenal To Gamble on Edinson Cavani & Lars Bender? Karim Benzema Signing Imminent?
Arsene Wenger looks to add Edinson Cavani to the team before the summer deadline closes.
The 28-year-old has been planning on a Premier League debut and has apparently set Emirates Stadium as his primary destination.
According to Spanish outfit Fichajes via Daily Star, the PSG forward wants to fly to England to take his medicals immediately to complete the deal.
The development followed reports claiming that Arsenal wants to take a gamble on Cavani.
"There is always time to take a gamble and we are not against taking a gamble but what you want is to take a gamble in a market where the opportunity is there," Arsene Wenger told the London Evening Standard.
In a previous report, Cavani's patience with PSG manager Laurent Blanc has run its course and the Uruguayan has been wanting out for quite some time now. He has since been linked to Premier League stalwarts Arsenal and Manchester United.
Cavani appeared 53 times for PSG last season and has scored a combined 31 goals for the French side.
Another signing the French manager is taking a gamble on is Germany international Lars Bender.
Wenger reportedly sent his scouts to watch the 26-year-old midfielder play during Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 loss at Lazio in the Champions League qualifying playoffs.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Karim Benzema is ready to join Arsenal ahead of his formal transfer from Real Madrid worth £50million.
The Emirates sides have sent out a private jet to fetch Benzema from Spain, Daily Express relayed.
Italian newsman Emanuele Giulianelli even took to Twitter to confirm the report.
He claimed on another tweet that Benzema is to take a medical in London on Monday.
Giulianelli even reported that Arsenal will have signed another striker before officially introducing Benzema to the club.
We just have to wait and see if this striker does in fact turns out to be Edinson Cavani.
At any rate, the recent report further squashed Wenger's seemingly disinterested demeanor when talking about Benzema.
"I respect Thierry Henry's football knowledge, but it is not as simple that you just sign a striker like Benzema and then mathematically you win the title. It doesn't work like that... It is important to have a top striker, but I think Giroud will not be far from 20 goals. If he played the whole season he would have scored 20 and Walcott as well," Wenger previously told ESPN FC.
Wenger couldn't play the role of Ebenezer Scrooge forever. Arsenal has since bid approximately £50 million for the Los Blancos forward after the manager's comments.
