Aaron Hernandez Murder Case News Update: Former Friend Granted Immunity in Former NFL Star's Upcoming Double Murder Case
Alexander Bradley, one of Aaron Hernandez's former friends, has been granted immunity in his upcoming trial on double murder charges.
According to the Boston Globe, Suffolk County prosecutors believe Bradley was with Hernandez on the night in July 2012 when he allegedly opened fire on Safiro Furtado and Daniel de Abreu after one of them bumped into the football player and spilled a drink on him inside a Miami nightclub and failed to apologize.
The grant of immunity for Bradley was revealed in a federal court filing made public this week, though the affidavit does not stipulate if he will actually be called to testify against the onetime New England Patriots star tight end. The documents were released by Bradley's attorneys, because the former friend is filling a civil suit against Hernandez.
Records also indicate Bradley has already testified before a Suffolk County grand jury and the grand jury in Bristol County, where Hernandez was convicted last April for the 2013 execution style killing of onetime associate Odin Lloyd.
Hernandez is now serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole in the Lloyd slaying and is being held at the Souza-Baranowski maximum security prison. His attorneys have now filed legal motions seeking to have that verdict overturned.
In the Lloyd case, reports are Bradley testified he saw Hernandez handling a .45 caliber Glock revolver similar to the one used in the killing months before the shooting.
Hernandez is scheduled to stand trial in the double homicide case in December in Suffolk Superior Court.
Months before being taken into custody in the Lloyd killing, the 25-year-old Hernandez had inked a five-year, $40 million extension with the Patriots as one of star quarterback Tom Brady's increasingly favorite targets.
