Club Brugge vs. Manchester United Champions League 2015-16 Predictions & Schedule
Manchester United will decide its Champions League fate on Wednesday when it takes on Club Brugge in the second leg of the qualifying playoffs.
The club's offense has been a disaster throughout the start of the Premier League with only two goals in three games; one of those goals was an own goal. The fortunate thing is that the team's defense has been excellent, and this should be the main focus as the team enters hostile territory. Wayne Rooney has been abysmal throughout the start of the year despite scoring a goal that was wrongfully disallowed in the team's most recent game. He will need to find his best form to lead his club to the Champions League.
United holds a 3-1 lead in the playoff thanks to a strong performance from Memphis Depay who scored twice in the first leg. Marouane Fellaini also tallied at the death of that game to give United a cushion.
That said Brugge is still very much alive in this contest. The Belgian club will be heading home for the second game of this playoff and only needs a 2-0 win to advance courtesy of the away goal it scored at United.
United missed out on the UEFA Champions League last season due to a poor season in 2013-14 under David Moyes. The team marginally improved in 2014-15 under Louis van Gaal but was unable to secure an automatic berth in the tournament.
Under Sir Alex Ferguson, this team was always a threat to win the tournament, but if it makes it this year, it will be a massive underdog. United is still a rather incomplete team and its attempts to lure a top striker or forward have fallen flat. Rumors linking the team to Neymar and Gareth Bale remain as strong as ever, but the chances of that coming to fruition are minimal to none.
At least for now.
Prediction: Brugge wins 1-0.
Start Time: 2:45 p.m. EST
ESPN Deportes will be televising the game.
