The Champions League draw took place on Thursday and all the teams are paired up in their respective groups. As usual there were big winners as well as big losers. Here is a rundown of the teams that should be happy and upset with their situation.

Winners

Manchester United

After missing out on the Champions League in 2014-15, the Red Devils got a rather easy draw in the Champions League. PSV Einhoven and Olympiakos are not going to provide much of a challenge for this club and while Wolfsburg will be tough, it is not unreasonable to assume that Louis Van Gaal's club could finish as the top team in Group B.

Atletico Madrid

The runner-ups from 2013-14 were arguably the big winners of this drawing, setting up dates with Benfica, Galatasaray and competition debutant Asana. While the Turkish and Portuguese teams should provide some challenges, there is no doubt that Diego Simeone's team is the one to beat from top to bottom. Atletico came out of the top of its group a year ago and should be just as a tough a team this time around.

Valencia

Notice a trend? The Spanish sides, aside from Sevilla and Real Madrid, wound up winners of this draw and none was a bigger winner than Valencia which will have an easy group through and through. Lyon, Gent and Zenit Petersburg are not world beaters and one would be hard pressed to find out which of these teams is actually a contender for second place. Valencia should win this group with flying colors.

Barcelona

Not the easiest of groups for the reigning UCL champs, but Bayer Leverkusen and Roma are not on the same level and will likely be doing battle for second place. As for BATE Borisov? Remember last year when the team was pegged for 24 goals against in six games and only scored twice? That group included Athletic Bilbao, Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk. For those wondering, none of those teams is on the level of the other three teams in Group E.

Chelsea

Jose Mourinho's team has it so easy that even the referees on their worst days should not be able to ruin the Blues' day. Moreover, Eden Hazard could probably be rested in the entire group stage because the reality is that Chelsea should sleepwalk through a group that includes Porto, Dynamo Kiev and Maccabi Tel Aviv. Porto will present some challenges and it should be fun to see Iker Casillas and his former manager face off, but this is Chelsea's group to lose. The team should get 15 points easily from this draw.

Losers

Arsenal

Arsenal has not gotten off to an ideal start in 2015-16 and the team will unfortunately will have some heavy lifting to do as it faces Bayern Munich in the opening round. Arsenal faced the defending German champions on two occasions in recent history. In 2012-13 the team was eliminated by Munich in the Round of 16 and the following year it faced the same fate against the same team in the same round. Throw in Olympiacos and the group gets a bit more complicated. The bigger problem for Arsenal, though? That it is likely to finish second in this group and take on a tough team in the Round of 16, its usual ending point in this tournament.

Paris Saint-Germain

A year ago they had Barcelona in the opening group and despite winning the first matchup, they wound up second in the group. Now they get Real Madrid in a group that is likely to come down to which side outlasts the other. It certainly does not help that Shakhtar Donetsk is in the group, adding another team that can do tremendous damage to either of the big teams. Shakhtar Donetsk will also be a thorn in their side and could potentially put PSG out of the second round.

Manchester City and everyone in Group D

It seems that every year Manchester City somehow winds up in the "Group of Death."

Here is a rundown of the last few years. In 2011-12 the team had Villarreal, Napoli and Bayern Munich in its group; it finished third. The following year the group included Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax; Manchester finished fourth. IN 2013-14 it had to deal with Bayern Munich, Viktoria Plzen and CSKA Moscow; it finished second and then got roasted by Barcelona in the Round of 16. Last season the team had Munich, Roma and CSKA Moscow, finished second and then got beat up by Barcelona in the Round of 16.

This season is arguably the toughest to date: Juventus, Europa League champion Sevilla and Borussia Monchengladbach. Where will City end up? That is a great question as it is conceivable that it could finish anywhere from first to fourth in such a complex group.

The same goes for Sevilla and Juventus, though those teams have infinitely less pressure than the perpetually underperforming Citizens.
