Floyd Mayweather defended his decision to face Andre Berto in his next fight set on Sept. 12 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather, who will put his unblemished 48-0 record on the line, said that Berto is not an easy opponent inside the ring like what most boxing fans and analysts are saying.

The reigning pound-for-pound king pointed out that fans should expect an action-packed showdown next month because Berto is a type of fighter who has been in a lot of exciting bouts in his career.

"Every time Berto goes out there, he's in an exciting fight," Mayweather said via BoxingScene. "There's never a dull moment when you're watching a Berto fight, so we'll just have to see how the fight pans out."

Berto holds a 30-3 record. At first glance, the record is decent, but most analysts pointed out that three defeats came in his last six fights after sweeping his first 27 professional bouts.

Mayweather's decision was heavily criticized, with most fans saying that the undefeated champion should have picked Amir Khan, Keith Thurman, Kell Brook or rival Manny Pacquiao for his farewell fight instead of Berto.

Mayweather is coming off a unanimous decision win against Pacquiao in May during their fight that generated around 4.4 million pay-per-view buys. After the record-setting pay-per-view fight, Mayweather's showdown against Berto is unlikely to get even one million buys.

But despite all the criticism he received when he picked Berto, Mayweather, who is the reigning World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association welterweight champion, is unfazed and insisted that he is not worried about the projected numbers.

"I'm going to continue to work around the clock," Mayweather said of promoting the fight. "My team is going to continue to work around the clock. I know how to do to my job. I've been very blessed and very successful with going about promoting fights. But our success or failure, we don't look at anything as failure - we look at everything as a positive."
