Why Are Rubber Duck Races Illegal in Wisconsin?
Who would have thought that simple rubber duck races could mean breaking the law? However, with the state Senate of Wisconsin passing a bill for its legalization, events like the Ducktona 500 and Lucky Ducky Debry may soon be in luck.
MSN reports that now that the ball is in the court of Gov. Scott Walker as the bill can only be considered legalized if he would render his signature. The rubber duck races are usually held by the nonprofit organizations with the intention of fulfilling fundraising projects.
Its legality only caught the attention of the state Justice Department after suspicions of the rubber duck racing activity lead to illegal gambling operations.
The bill for the legalization in Wisconsin is set to go through a public hearing on Thursday. It will be held and heard before the Senate's Workforce Development Committee.
The Oddest of Bills
The bill to legalize rubber duck races is not the only weird law to be passed. In fact, several quirky bills were reviewed and gather by Huffington Post that all emerged just last year. Some of them are the following:
- A bill that will put a halt on the state health care benefits of all officials along with the governor as proposed by Sen. Jeremy Nordquist.
- A bill that will require all Idaho high school pupils to read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand as proposed by Sen. John Goedde.
- A bill that will make Virginians their own currency.
- A bill that will ban strip clubs and even the occurrence of lap dances in Kansas. The proposed bill even discussed all the graphic details involved in it that would draw the line on what should and should not happen inside a club.
- A bill that would declare an official religion in North Carolina.
