Juan Manuel Marquez Next Fight: Shane Mosley Wants 'Dinamita' in December
Mexican living legend Juan Manuel Marquez just got an invite from returning boxer and former world champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley to face him in December.
The 43-year-old Mosley just defeated 41-year-old Ricardo Mayorga via a sixth-round knockout in a non-title rematch at The Forum in Inglewood, California, Boxing News 24 reported.
"Sugar" (48-9-1, 40 KOs), who probably have closed his book on Mayorga after knocking him out again, reminiscent of his 12th KO win seven years ago at the Home Depot Center in Carson, is set to facing greater challenges in his career. Thus, he wants "Dinamita" next, as revealed in one of his Twitter posts.
Boxing Scene noted that the American boxer would give "Dinamita" $2 million to face him in December, citing his social networks posts.
Marquez Returning
It is just timely for Mosley to call out Marquez as the 42-year-old "Dinamita" is also planning to stage a comeback this fall and looking for a worthy opponent, too, World Boxing News announced.
"I still have the hunger, I still possess the ambition and I still have the fire...I want that fifth Championship...So firstly I need to recover [from right kneecap injury], second find a rival and then war! If everything goes well, I'm planning to fight again in October or November," said Marquez.
Marquez came out of a unanimous decision against Mike Alvarado last year at The Forum, with the 35-year-old praising him for dominating him clearly, although he knocked down the older foe during the ninth round, ESPN reported.
"It was a bad experience being in there with a legend," Alvarado said. "That's the kind of fighter I am. I like wars. That's how he exploited me and that's how I fight. My hat's off to him. I thank God it was a good fight. I am happy with this opportunity."
However, if Mosley is really serious in his intent of colliding next with the Mexican icon, he should deliver a greater performance than what he showed against Mayorga. Tim Fletcher of Boxing News 24 observed that Mosley was able to pull off a victory against his recent foe because Mayorga was just not fit at all.
"Dinamita" on the other hand, is a known power puncher and proved that he can take on a very much younger opponents like Alvarado, as evident of the Denver native's swollen face last year when they met in the ring, as described by ESPN.
