The new Boston Red Sox president of baseball operations are open to trading with the New York Yankees. In a report from The Boston Herald, Dave Dombrowski will do anything to improve the current state of the Red Sox.

He said, "You're always open to making any trades you think will better your club. If you're trading within your own division, I've always been open to it. But some people aren't." The former Detroit Tigers general manager is known throughout the major leagues as one of the best dealing GMs.

Dombrowski was released by the Tigers last Aug. 4 after 14 years of service. He was replaced by long-time Tigers assistant to the GM, Al Avila, as reported by MLB.

The Red Sox hired Dombrowski on Aug. 12 when Ben Cherington resigned from his position after a poor season for the team and his top two free agent signings turned out to be disappointments, as reported by USA Today. Red Sox owner, Jon Henry, said, "I have known Dave very well for a long time. Tom and I have no doubts that Dave is the right person to strengthen our baseball operations group going forward. He is one of the most highly regarded executives in all of baseball."

The Yankees and Red Sox are both in the AL East division and have a historic rivalry dating back in the 1900s. The most famous trade between the two teams happened on Dec. 26, 1919 when the Yankees sent $100,000 for "The Bambino" Babe Ruth.

The Red Sox went on an 86-year drought before winning another World Series title after the trade. It was widely known as "The Curse of the Bambino," which started the rivalry. The Red Sox won three titles before the trade while the Yankees won four with Babe Ruth.

The last trade made by the rivals was a waiver wire trade in 2014 when the Red Sox traded Stephen Drew for Kelly Johnson, according to The Boston Herald. Before that trade, the two teams have not made a deal with each other for 17 years.

Dombrowski looks like he has no problems in trading with a rival team. He has made significant trades in his entire career, which include acquiring Miguel Cabrera for the Tigers in a 2007 and Max Scherzer in 2009 in a separate report from The Boston Herald.

He has won one World Series in 1997 as the Florida Marlins GM. He was also responsible for getting Mike Lowell in 1999 from the Yankees while he was with Florida. The move paid off as the Marlins won the World Series again in 2003 although Dombrowski was already in Detroit.
