Xiaomi Mi Edge Release Date, Specs & Rumors: Rumored Smartphone To Have Curved Edge on Both Sides?
If a recent report from China is to be believed, Xiaomi is planning to rival the latest flagship smartphone from a well-known South Korean brand. The Chinese mobile tech giant is allegedly working on their version of Samsung's Galaxy Edge.
According to Mobile-Dad as translated by Tect Firstpost, the upcoming Xiaomi device will be known as the Xiaomi Mi Edge. It will have a 5.2-inch 2K display from Sharp, Qualcomm's 64-bit hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor and RAM ranging from anywhere between 3GB to 4GB.
The Mi Edge will be encased in a metal build while being fitted with a 16-megapixel main camera. The device is also said to feature a fingerprint scanner as well as the Adreno 418 GPU.
The Mi Edge's most distinguishable feature, though, is its curved edge design on both its sides reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.
Not much else is known of the Mi Edge spec-wise as of the moment. However, it is interesting to note that Xiaomi began seeding their new MIUI 7 OS this month, which implies the Mi Edge might run on an update version of the new operating system.
Through their official website, the company, which has been making a lot of noise over the past several months with their cheap but attractive smartphones, gave their fans a glimpse on their new MIUI interface.
The Android 5.1 Lollipop-based firmware will include and automatic photo sorter app, virtual SIM card capabilities, "Kids Mode," videos for contacts and "Goddess" mode theme to name a few.
As for the Mi Edge, the handset is expected to debut this October at $391, Phone Arena reported.
In other Xiaomi news, the original equipment manufacturer from China is also said to be testing on the Mi 5 Plus, which as its name implies will be a larger version of the Mi 5.
"The Mi Edge might be a Mi 5 alternative for those who want to differentiate, something similar to what Samsung did with the S6 Edge and S6 Edge Plus," Android Headlines noted.
In a previous report, the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5 tallied 73,075 AnTuTu benchmark points en route to best out the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge whose scores lingered around the 70k mark. Both devices are powered by the Exynos-7420 chipset while the Mi 5 is backed by the deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 processor.
"If Xiaomi Mi5 is released in 2016, then there is a high chance that the smartphone is going to be running Snapdragon 820. If the handset ends up getting released this year, then there is a very high probability that the device will be sporting Helio X20, which runs a 10 core processor," a Xiaomi-based online news portal said.
