Bangkok Blast Update: 2 Suspects Named in Bombing Investigation, Officals to Receive Reward Money
Thai police issued an arrest warrant for two suspects that could be linked to the Bangkok bombing that happened earlier in August.
According to CNN, Thai police issued an arrest warrant for Wanna Suansan, a 26-year-old woman from from Phang Nga, a province in southern Thailand. The female suspect was last seen wearing a hijab.
"We have expanded our search to various residential buildings after the arrest of one suspect," police spokesman Prawut Thawornsiri said.
According to The Guardian, a foreigner was named a suspect in the bombing. The unidentified man was last seen with short hair and stubble and was sharing a room with Suansan. The name of the man is not known.
The Bangkok bombing killed 20 people and injured over 120 people on Aug.17. Among those who are confirmed deceased are a Chinese national and a Filipino national.
A reward is being offered to anybody who has any information about the bombing, but according to the Guardian, National Police Chief Somyot Poompanmoung said the officers will be rewarded $84,000 for finding a 28-year-old foreign worker who had bomb-making material near Bangkok last week.
"One million baht comes from me, the other two million baht came from my businessmen friends who do not want to be named," he said
Recently, police raided the home of the suspect that had bomb-making materials in his home. The man denied any wrongdoing. Police said he is a part of a network that carried out the two bombing incidents.
Poompanmoung said that the attack might have been carried out by a people-smuggling gang that wanted revenge in response to a crackdown on trade.
So far, no one has been charged with any crime and the investigation is ongoing.
The explosion took place at the famed Erawan shrine where thousands of people flock to pray everyday. The shrine is home to a golden statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai representation of Brahma, the Hindu god of creation.
