The Miami Heat are not actively shopping Mario Chalmers at this point, but that does not mean the former starting point guard will stay in South Beach for good.

According to Miami Herald, the Heat could try to trade Chalmers again before the trade deadline in February next year or even before the season, depending on how their young point guards will perform in camp.

Chalmers started in all regular-season games from the 2011-12 to the 2013-14 seasons, but was booted out of the starting lineup after the Heat acquired Goran Dragic in a trade with the Phoenix Suns last season.

Dragic, who signed a five-year deal worth $85 million this offseason, is expected to start at point guard for the Heat, while Chalmers will be his main backup.

Tyler Johnson, who will be entering his second year in the league, and rookie Josh Richardson are also expected to get some minutes behind Dragic and Chalmers.

The Miami Herald revealed that the Heat will take a look at the progress of Johnson and Richardson in training camp. And if they feel both Johnson and Richardson are ready to take bigger role, the Heat will likely decide to shop Chalmers again before the season until the annual trade deadline.

"The Heat is back to full strength a month before training camp," the Miami Herald noted. "The Heat, incidentally, wants to take a long look at Johnson and Josh Richardson in training camp before deciding whether to make a renewed attempt to trade Chalmers."

Chalmers, who has spent his entire seven-year career in Miami, has one year left in his contract with the Heat and is scheduled to earn $4.3 million next season.

The Heat are reportedly shopping Chalmers in order to get some assets in return instead of just letting him go for nothing when he hits free agency next summer.

The Heat are also trying to go under the luxury tax threshold. Aside from Chalmers, the Heat will also reportedly consider trading veteran forward Chris Andersen, who also has one year left in his contract with the Heat worth $5 million next season.

Previous reports also indicated that the Heat might part ways with veteran small forward Luol Deng before the deadline. It depends on their playoff chances midway through the season and the development of Justise Winslow, who was selected 10th in the 2015 NBA Draft in June.
