‘Thor 3: Ragnarok' & 'Captain Marvel' Set in Australia? Yvonne Strahovski as Carol Danvers?
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" was mainly shot in the U.K. and had some of its scenes taken in South Africa and South Korea. "Captain America: Civil War" had just wrapped up shooting in Germany while "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will follow in the footsteps of "Ant-Man" and will shoot in Atlanta early next year. Where would Marvel Studios trot next?
A report from the Land Down Under might just have the answer.
According to a source from Yahoo! Australia, Disney was impressed with how filming next year's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" went in Australia. So much so that the studio is favoring the Outback territory the main shooting location for either if not both "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Captain Marvel".
"It was a great experience for the studio who were able to familiarise themselves with the set-up at Village Roadshow [studios] and the crews here. They were also able to work across a lot of different locations which has saved them scouting for the Marvel movie," an unnamed technical specialist on the fifth Pirate film said.
Thor might be Norse or Asgardian but Chris Hemsworth is every bit as Australian as one can be. Imagine how he will react to this recent development, given the fact that Marvel hasn't already inform their star of their eventual shooting location.
"Chris Hemsworth lives with his family just an hour outside of Village Roadshow's Gold Coast locations, and his Australian background may help on the tax incentive side," Screen Rant reported.
Meanwhile, "Captain Marvel" will start filming in the summer of 2017. In showbusiness timetable, that's a long span of time wherein a lot of production changes still take place. However, if current implications on this matter hold up for two more years, there is a bevy of potential Australian actresses who can take on the role of Carol Danvers aka the titular "Captain Marvel". Fan favorite Yvonne Strahovski was earlier the subject of a viral fan art by Deviant Art user amyisalittledecoy. Naturally, the unsolicited image has strengthened Strahovski's chances of playing Danvers on the big screen.
If Marvel ultimately decides to only shot one of these movies in Australia though, "Thor: Ragnarok" woul be the clear cut choice. Australia's diverse locales would be well-suited to illustrate never before seen areas of the Nine Realms that Thor and Company might explore to in their third solo outing.
"Thor: Ragnarok" will hit the big screen on Nov. 3, 2017 while "Captain Marvel" will follow on Nov. 2, 2018.
