Apple To Compete With Netflix, Amazon & Hulu with Originial Video Programming?
It should have been expected that Apple is moving into a brand new frontier. The tech giant is reportedly looking into being part of the original programming business to produce its own movies and television series.
According to sources from Variety, the company has already talked with Hollywood executives about the possibilities of creating entertainment content. Although there are varying reports regarding the scale of the project, one source revealed that Apple is looking to set up a division for the development and production of streaming content like Netflix.
This new brainchild of Apple sets the company up against current entertainment entities including Netflix, Amazon and Hulu.
Since it is in the early stages of development, it's still too hazy to predict Apple's game plan. No details have been revealed regarding what kind of content they are planning to produce, or whether they are planning to build their own internal studio or work with external production companies.
This move into the entertainment industry is not entirely unexpected for the tech juggernaut, though. It has opened itself as a lucrative platform for independent films, even launching a Kickstarter campaign to support indie projects, as per another report from Variety.
The company has also dabbled in a little bit of video production, according to a report by Bloomberg. In-house productions such as the famous Beats 1 Radio station and music videos for big names also point to Apple's interest in producing original content, said a separate report from MacRumors.
Another hotly-anticipated related product is the rumored Apple TV 4, the streaming video box that has been in talks for years. According to 9to5mac, the latest Apple TV will include impressive features such as Siri integration, an iOS 9 core and a new interface.
Even more interesting is the product's focus on the gaming crowd. The new Apple TV will have "deep support for gaming" with direct downloads available from the Apple Store and a cool bundled remote control that has physical buttons and a touchpad. It will also support console-style Bluetooth controllers.
The Apple TV is said to be priced between $149 and $199. It's rumored to ship in October 2015.
With so many products and gadgets slated to hit the market, the attention is fully on Apple's event on Sept. 15. Among the items that are said to be launched at the event are the upgraded iPhones: the 6s and 6s Plus.
According to Market Watch, the Apple TV is expected to get some time in the spotlight as well, while the iPad might be launched at a later date this year.
