PBS 'Downton Abbey' Season 6 Online News: First Trailer Reveals Nostalgic Tone
The trailer to "Downton Abbey" has finally premiered online.
The new trailer clearly has a nostalgic feel to it as it has the song "Con te Partiro" ("Time to Say Goodbye") sung in English. The song plays as shots of the show are shown with many of the characters returning to the series. It also captures the nostalgia of saying goodbye to beloved characters.
The trailer starts with Hugh Bonneville's Lord Grantham's, saying, "If I could stop history in its tracks, maybe I would. But I can't, Carson. You nor I can hold back time!" It is later followed by a lot of shots of closing doors, opening doors, packing rooms, smiling faces and car races. It also looks like the last season will have many dramatic moments.
"Downton Abbey" is one of the most beloved shows on TV as it has not only won a number of awards including Golden Globes and SAG awards. It has also obtained a huge audience and has also made a huge impact for many of the stars of the show.
As a result it was a huge surprise when it was announced that the show would end after six seasons.
The show's creator Julian Fellowes has stated that he is ending the show at a good point but he has left spinoffs a possibility. According to Fellowes, he may be developing a Broadway show or possibly a film adaptation. However, nothing is confirmed.
"Downton Abbey" follows the lives of the Crawley family and their servants. It takes place during years leading up to World War I.
The show stars Oscar winner Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville, Jim Carter, Brendan Coyle, Joanne Froggatt and Phyllis Logan.
"Downton Abbey" will air in the U.K. first before coming to the U.S. on Sunday, Jan. 3 on PBS.
