Patrick Kane Trade News Update: At Least 5 Teams Interested in Accused Chicago Blackhawks Star
The Chicago Blackhawks are rumored to be fielding a slew of trade offers for troubled star forward Patrick Kane.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports at least five teams have reached out to the Hawks about Kane's availability in the wake of him now being under investigation for the alleged rape of a woman in his hometown of Hamburg, Buffalo.
It's uncertain if the Hawks actually have any interest in dealing the 26-year-old Kane, whom the team recently inked to an eight-year, $84 million extension.
While the jury remains out in deciding if Kane will face any criminal charges stemming from the probe, there's little doubt his public image has already taken a beating. Since the investigation commenced, he's already been removed from the cover of the EA Sports NHL 16 video game, and his London Knights junior team changed the name of their team from Kane to that of another alum.
And now, as riveted as they are by his talent, reports are the Hawks too have "run out of patience."
WGN TV reports back in 2012, the Hawks gave Kane a final warning after he was spied drunk at a University of Wisconsin party, and rumors began to percolate that he might have a drinking problem. Not long before that, Kane and a cousin were arrested on charges of punching and grabbing a cab driver in a dispute about a fare.
At the Blackhawks Stanley Cup celebration earlier this summer at Grant Park, Kane joked with an overflow crowd, "I know you say I've been growing up, but watch out for me next week."
Led by Kane and captain Jonathan Toews, the Hawks have now won three Stanley Cups in six seasons.
